Note from the President – November, 2017

Hey GSSHA Members,

A big thank you to everyone after a great year-end banquet! We’re grateful to Indian Creek Steakhouse for taking such good care of us. We already knew the food was going to be great, but they went above and beyond by donating to the auction, buying several items, and even printing extra auction forms when we ran out due to the amazing volume of donations.

Speaking of auctions, both were a great success. The number and quality of items reaffirms what we already knew: we have a truly generous membership base. Thank you to everyone who donated–and to everyone who bid! A special shout out to RC Bean for donating a handmade purse that wound up as our high-seller at $400! This fundraiser will help us make 2018 our most successful year yet.

I am very excited to have awarded this year’s Youth Scholarship to Macyn McCullough. Macyn’s thoughtful and well-written application reflected a great balance of academics and western lifestyle that included showing in all four of the GSSHA shows in 2017. Congratulations again, Macyn! I also want to recognize the other three applicants: Annie Miller, Tayler Renouf, and Jake Lesher. All were extremely qualified and made the selection very difficult. The Youth Scholarship is a priority for us and will be a large part of our sponsorship activities this year. Keep applying!

We held a raffle at the banquet for those who bought their 2018 membership. The prize was a paid entry to our May show. Judy Moody was the lucky winner, and we’re looking forward to seeing her this spring.

Last, but not least, congratulations to all the members who showed this past season. Whether or not you received an award this year, you deserve recognition for all the hard work that goes into entering up at each show. Thank you. We are committed to continuing to create opportunities for you to ride, learn, and have a great time with your cowhorses.

My first year as your board president has been great. I appreciate that my questions and pushing for change have been met by my fellow board members with productive dialog and feel certain we’re all looking forward to a great 2018! As always, please email or call me with any feedback. We want to keep improving your Association.

Keep checking the website over the winter, or follow us on Facebook. We’ll have clinic dates posted soon and 2018 show dates are confirmed!

See you next year!

Brian Lesher
